Prepare your questions before a UK-to-Island purchase

Paperwork and transport belong in the budget from the beginning.

01

Establish the vehicle story

Ask for the UK registration details and documents, service records and known issues. Check the relevant UK records and consider an independent inspection. The ferry booking does not make missing paperwork or uncertain condition easier to resolve.

02

Read both sides of the process

Use GOV.UK for checks on the UK vehicle, and Isle of Man guidance for local registration and licensing. Confirm the documents you must obtain from the seller before payment. Do not assume that a receipt alone is sufficient for the next stage.

03

Price the journey honestly

Include travel, transport, any applicable inspection or registration costs and the work needed after arrival. Get current quotes rather than copying someone else’s old fee. Put uncertain items in the budget as questions to resolve, not as zero-cost entries.

04

Plan a workable handover

Agree what documents, keys and accessories will be supplied and check them at collection. Keep the evidence of the transaction securely. If the process is unclear, pause and contact the relevant authority; this site does not provide import approval or legal advice.
