Plan a longer drive with fewer loose ends

Sort the route, the people and the paperwork before departure.

01

Build time into the plan

Allow for rest stops, weather, delays and the time needed at departure or arrival points. Check current route conditions and restrictions through the appropriate official sources. A remembered journey time is a starting assumption, not a promise.

02

Use the handbook for checks

Before travelling, follow the manufacturer’s guidance for tyres, fluids and other owner checks. If something is uncertain or the vehicle has a developing problem, seek advice early. Do not make the departure time a reason to ignore a concern.

03

Prepare for the people

Plan drinking water, suitable clothing, charging leads and anything passengers need. Keep required medicines and essential documents accessible. Secure luggage and make sure the driver’s view and controls remain clear.

04

Have an alternative

Keep assistance details and a plan for a delay or missed connection. Tell relevant people if the schedule changes when you can do so safely. A calmer plan has somewhere to pause, rather than assuming the car must keep moving whatever happens.
